Major Wendy Oliver

Major Wendy Oliver has been an active Salvation Army Officer for thirty five years and has had long experience on the mission field, social and welfare programs.

Wendy grew up in Geelong, Victoria, entering The Salvation Army Training College (Bible College) in 1969. After ordination, she served in children's homes, chaplaincy to courts and prisons and director of family support services prior to overseas service in Brazil. After nine and half years on mission field service in emergency relief programs which included drought and famine relief to the people of Brazil, Wendy returned to Australia to appointments working with street kids of inner Melbourne, alcohol and drug rehabilitation and the missing persons/family tracing service.

In January 2002 Wendy was appointed to her current appointment as The Salvation Army's Social Program Director in northern Victoria which geographically embraces a region from Mildura along the Murray River to Wodonga, down the Hume Highway to Broadford and across central Victoria via St Arnaud to Mildura. In this region The Salvation Army has eighteen worship centres and fifty eight social/community service programs.

Wendy has a love for regional Victoria and has purchased her own home in the area. In her role as Social Program Director she is heavily involved in the relief of social and economic suffering and in particular the widespread consequences of the long term drought in the region.
