Dr
Christine Bennett was appointed as
CEO of Research Australia in September
2002. With more than 20 years experience
in the health care industry as a specialist
clinician, strategist and planner
and chief executive in both the public
and private sectors, she is well suited
to lead Research Australia to achieving
its mission.
Formerly a paediatrician, Dr Bennett
has held senior positions in the NSW
Department of Health in services planning
and policy and was Chief Executive
Officer of Westmead Hospital and Community
Health Services, Australias
largest teaching hospital campus.
In 2000 Dr Bennett was invited to
be a partner at KPMG in Health and
Life Sciences and assisted a range
of health care, biotech and pharmaceutical
companies with business strategy,
IT solutions, commercial intelligence
and capital raising processes. Most
recently Dr Bennett has been the Managing
Director of a public unlisted healthcare
company with a broad range of health
businesses.
Dr Bennett has been an active fellow
in the Royal Australasian College
of Physicians over many years including
her roles on the national Council,
Chair of the Social Issues Committee
and involvement in establishing the
Media and Health Policy Units of the
College. Throughout her diverse career
Dr Bennett has maintained a keen interest
in health and medical research. She
has been a Director on a number of
health research institutes and foundations
and is currently on the Board of NISAD
(Neurosciences Institute of Schizophrenia
and Allied Disorders).
