Introducing Ken Morgan
Kids Under Cover

Since 1989, one man has worked tirelessly at giving hope to homeless and at-risk young people throughout Victoria- That man is Ken Morgan.

One morning many years ago Ken found himself sleeping on a park bench in Sydney’s Kings Cross. He was woken by a member of the local constabulary who was walking the early morning beat. Appearing dazed and confused, the policeman took pity on Ken and sat down beside him. Three hours later Ken’s life had been changed forever. A complete stranger had taken time to show Ken there were people out there who really did care. Even in his darkest hour; Ken never forgot the message of hope delivered on that fateful day.

Ken’s adult life progressed and he thrived as a businessperson, however he always maintained a strong sense of community. After many years of performing high profile work for various children’s charities, Ken went in search of something more tangible. He convinced members of the building industry to donate all the goods and services required to build a home for homeless young people. The State government supported the idea and contributed the land. In 1992, three years after Ken commenced the project, the first Kids Under Cover home was built.

Since then, Kids Under Cover has gone from strength to strength. It now boasts a portfolio of over 150 properties state-wide (one new home every four weeks). This equates to housing hundreds of homeless and at risk young people every year; single- handily making a serious impact on homeless numbers throughout Victoria. This success is directly attributed to Ken’s drive and passion to truly make a difference to the lives of our disenfranchised kids. When it comes to charity, Ken lives by the mantra “No is not a reason, it’s just an excuse not to say yes and I don’t take no for an answer when it comes to the kids”.
