Peter Jackson

Peter JacksonPeter Jackson was admitted as a solicitor in 1973 and has worked principally in the areas of banking and finance litigation, enabling him to provide much-needed assistance to people from all walks of life.

As a specialist in this area, he has taken on many difficult cases and his innovative approach has resulted in considerable success for clients in both court victories and settlements.

He has also worked extensively with farmers in the area of banking and finance law and has examined the Farm Debt Mediation Act in detail.

His work has resulted in a number of important aspects of this legislation being reviewed in cases such as:

  • Hodgson Pastoral Co Pty Ltd v. Westpac Banking Corporation
  • Gain v. Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

In 1991 Peter appeared before the House of Representatives Standing Committee on finance and public administration on behalf of a number of clients that were experiencing difficulties with the Commonwealth Bank.

He has assisted in around 100 mediations in relation to problems farmers face with their bank.

Peter also actively assists clients in business development and has worked closely with clients on a number of joint venture projects, including a major initiative in China to build its beef cattle industry.

Peter from time to time acts on a pro bono basis in cases where he sees that those who are before the Court will be left unrepresented without pro bono assistance.

Peter and his team of solicitors are on call for the Lightning Ridge Women's Refuge and regularly provide legal advice to residents of the refuge.

Personally, Peter and his partner collect books in their local area which are shipped every few months to the Lightning Ridge community.  These books go into the Drop In Centre, the Women's Refuge and the Library.  If anyone is able to assist with this collection, they should ring Peter at his office and he will arrange for the books to be collected for the benefit of the Lightning Ridge community.
