Launch Of The Hearing Voices Network Of NSW

The Hearing Voices Network of NSW (HVNNSW) is open to people in NSW who are voice hearers, family, carers and mental health workers.

The Hearing Voices Network of NSW was inspired by the work of Marius Romme and Sandra Escher, and the hearing voices network in New Zealand. There is now a collection of Hearing Voices networks throughout the world.

Some of the aims of the Hearing Voices Network are to:

  • Share experiences and Coping Strategies
  • Educate society about the meaning of voices, and help to reduce stigma in the community
  • Bring voice hearers who cope with their voices together with those who are distressed by their voices
  • Support a national network of people who hear voices as well as family, friends and mental health workers
  • Help start and provide resources and information for support groups of voice hearers in NSW
  • Develop a range of non-medical ways of assisting people to cope with their voices

The Hearing Voices Network of NSW is open to diverse opinions and aims to destigmatise voice hearing experiences, as the network believes this can lead to a greater tolerance and understanding of the phenomenon.

The network uses a forum which is designed to exchange communications between networks, provide internet support for its self help groups, and post information and links that may be helpful for its members.
