October 24 - 28 2005
| The theme for
the 31st Annual Conference of the Australian
and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses,
"Setting Sail For New Horizons - From
The Past To The Future" challenges us
to reflect upon the current state of mental
health nursing, the events that have shaped
our profession to date and the need to have
a vision about where we want to be in the
future. What is on the horizon for mental
health nursing? |
|
Various pressures
in the form of funding cuts, an ageing workforce,
acute shortages of specialist mental health professionals
and the ongoing need to ensure that our practices
result in the best possible outcomes for consumers
of mental health services combine to challenge
our profession. The scope of practice of mental
health nursing, the ways in which mental health
nursing education is delivered and the nature
of our relationships with consumers, carers and
other health professionals have all changed markedly
over the years. It is inevitable that they will
continue to change. The extent to which we influence
the direction of these changes will largely be
a result of the vision and commitment of mental
health nurses.
On behalf of the Council, members and fellows
of the Australian and New Zealand College of Mental
Health Nurses, I invite you to join us in Fremantle
for our 31st Annual Conference. Come along and
share your experiences and your vision for the
future and hear from your colleagues from Australia
and overseas about the many exciting ways in which
mental health nurses are "setting sail"
towards our professional future. At the same time
you will enjoy the company of friends and colleagues
from around the world in the beautiful historic
setting of Fremantle in Western Australia.
